1/4 cup steel cut oats
1 cup water
honey or maple syrup to taste
Combine steal cut oats and water in pan and cook for at least 30 minutes or until water has been absorbed.
Stir continually throughout the cooking process.
Steal cut oats take a little longer to cook than regular oatmeal but they are oat groats that have been cut into two or three pieces which makes them a relatively unprocessed. They have the same amount of fiber as rolled oats so if you are in a hurry then you may wish to switch them out, but try the steal cut at least once and you may find them heartier and more filling.
Once cooked add sliced banana and a drizzle of maple syrup or honey.
If you are watching your sugar intake then you may wish to eliminate the maple syrup and honey although honey has a lower glycemic index than sugar and has been thought to actually regulate blood sugar levels.
